About Guildford & District Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue
Welcome to Guildford and District Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue.
We have been running since September 2006, and have since become
affiliated to SBT Welfare, an
umbrella group for local rescue groups which provides us with charitable status.
We are Alison and Dave Oakden, we live in a village near Guildford in
Surrey with our family and three of our own staffords, Khan, Sprite and Lexus.
Lexus we adopted from G&DSBTR in December 08. We have been involved with dog
rescue for 16 years helping with Dogs In
Need a local all breed dog rescue established for over twenty years prior
to setting up G&DSBT rescue.
Staffordshire Bull Terriers have been Alison’s favourite breed since her family
took in a female from her next door neighbours when she was 9. She had to wait
a long time before she could own her own dog acquiring Joshua when she was over 30.
Joshua, was a brindle male whom we adopted through SBT rescue at Battersea Old
Winsor Kennels as a puppy. Joshua died in April 2006 just a few weeks off his 16th birthday.
Recently when Alison saw how popular the Stafford had become, how many were being bred
and how many had been abandoned or needed re-homing, she set up the Guildford branch after
liaising with John and Gwen Laker of the South East Counties branch and chairman of SBT
welfare. John Laker writing recently stated how our beloved breed is in crisis and how
it is a worrying time for the Staffordshire bull terrier.
Since we started G&DSBTR we have successfully re-homed many Staffords averaging 20 dogs a year.
